今天要介紹離紐約市立圖書館非常近編號三號的中央車站。

 

中央車站有將近一百年的歷史，每天無休地負責乘客往返紐約上州各城鎮。上下班的時候更是繁忙，加上由於三鐵共構，人潮極多。

 

車站內部氣勢宏大，舒適的空間，採用自然採光，大廳由如宮殿大廳般。

 

車站的公共建築部分則是全球第一大的車站。(人流最多的是東京新宿車站)

 

中央車站在 1913 年啟用後，帶動者個地區的繁華，頓時之間中央車站四周華麗大廈紛紛出現，全美地段最貴的豪宅也在中央車站旁邊。但這些因繁華帶來的衝擊破壞了大中央車站附近的景緻，引來抗議聲浪。中央車站後面的大都會人壽落成時，反抗聲音達到高潮。

 

中央車站不僅僅是車站，還有許多複合式商店、超級市場、咖啡廳、美食街等等，生活機能一應俱全。

 

許多電影都在中央車站取景，The Apprentice 有一季的某一集也是在這開場的。

 

中央的 Information 櫃台很吸睛。上面的四面鐘更是注目的焦點。四面鐘的盤面都是用貓眼石作的。詢問處裡，有一個祕密通道可通往地下。

 

天花板的星座彩繪由法國藝術家 Paul César Helleu創作，但在30年代後期因脫落而被重新繪製。如果對星空圖有研究的朋友，你會發現上面的星空圖是反的。那是因為藝術家是用上帝的觀點俯瞰星空。星空圖不僅是反的，還跟現在不一樣，因為那是按照中世紀的星空圖繪製而成的。
